Porto Katsiki (Greek: Πόρτο Κατσίκι) is one of the most famous beaches in Greece and Europe in general. It is 35 km away from Lefkada city near Athani village.

Porto Katsiki, translated into English, means “Port of the Goat”, due to the fact goats were previously the only things that could reach the beach.

This beach deserves to be seen and we advise coming in the early morning (before 10:00) or at the afternoon (after 18:00) during the high season or in May, June, and September when the beach is not overrun with visitors. You may also visit Porto Katsiki with the cruise boats from Nydri or Vasiliki.

The unique view of the white cliffs over the beach combined with the surrounding green of the area and the cyan water of the sea make this beach a “must visit” for tourists. Porto Katsiki has parking lots and canteens, but you will not find anywhere to stay.

Some people camp on the beach, but this is not recommended as it can be dangerous underneath the rocks.

Because it is so well-known, we do not recommend visiting the beach during afternoons in July and August, because it becomes overcrowded and noisy.

Access can be fairly difficult by car as there is only one, narrow road which reaches the beach from the cliffs with the last 2km becoming overcrowded with cars parking on either side of the road. The road is too narrow to fit two cars side by side most of the time. The car park charges 5 or 6 euros a day, even if you are only visiting for 1 or 2 hours. If you decide to use the car park, try to negotiate with the parking keeper to obtain a small discount.

Keep in mind that there are no gas stations between Lefkada town and Porto Katsiki so fill up before you go because you might be stuck in idle traffic for hours.

To the left, there are steps down to the superb beach, with high white cliffs in the background. On the right, more steps and a cement walkway lead out to a little headland with an excellent view across to the beach.

If you visit Porto Katsiki from the south of the island, you can take a shortcut just after Pondi by turning left after the street mirror and following the little path.
