The northern part of the beach at Nidri is as good as any locally. Sandy beaches are all on the west coast and you will will not be able to get direct buses over there, you will have to hire a vehicle of some sort. Swimming on the east coast is far safer and better than on the west coast. All the beaches near Nidri are shingle or pebble, but they are all very safe for swimming.
